With a comprehensive background in environmental biogeochemistry, Xiuyuan's past research ranges from regional case studies to macro-scale modeling. She completed her Master's degree in China, focusing on biogeochemical cycling in freshwater ecosystems. Her previous work primarily utilized computational modeling, eDNA techniques, and nutrient source tracking. Now, joining KAUST as a PhD student at the ROCKNHub, Xiuyuan is translating her skills in freshwater research to marine environments. Her doctoral research will focus on quantifying zooplankton inputs to coral reefs, exploring the fundamental pelagic drivers that sustain reef productivity.
